After several months from the shutdown of the giant TV network, ABS-CBN due to denial of its franchise renewal, on Monday morning at around 9:30 a.m. January 18, 2021, the House of Representative is set to conduct hearing to investigate the allegations against the network.

The set hearing of the House committee will be taking highlighted issues based on the four (4) filed resolutions by the lawmakers.

It can be recalled that a day after the 5th State of the Nation Address of President Rodrigo Duterte, where he railed against Lopezes, the owner of the giant network, resolutions were immediately filed to the House committee on July 28, 2020 from which probe by the House committee will be based.

Below are the highlighted topics to be taken during the House committee hearing:

  • House Resolution (HR) No. 1058, authored by Deputy Speaker Rodante Marcoleta, doubts the Lopezes maintained their ownership of the ABS-CBN property along Mother Ignacia Street in Quezon City after the late dictator Ferdinand Marcos sequestered the network during Martial Law.
  • HR No. 1040 wants to probe whether the Lopez family “unjustly” benefited when the state-owned Development Bank of the Philippines condoned P1.6 billion worth of loans in 2006. This was authored by Marcoleta with Senior Deputy Majority Leader Jesus Crispin Remulla, Deputy Speaker Paolo Duterte, Dumper PTDA Representative Claudine Bautista, ACT-CIS Representative Eric Yap, Anakalusugan Representative Mike Defensor, and Cavite 4th District Representative Elpidio Barzaga Jr.
  • HR No. 1015, filed by Remulla, calls for an investigation into Amcara Broadcasting Network, to determine if it violated the terms of its franchise. He earlier accused Amcara of being ABS-CBN’s “dummy.”
  • HR No. 984, authored by Nueva Ecija 2nd District Representative Micaela Violago, wants other major broadcasting networks to submit copies of the Philippine Depositary Receipts (PDRs) they issued to foreigners so legislators could help “shed light” on the PDRs’ legality.
