Nonito Donaire gets “fired up” after making weight for his fight against Japanese star Naoya Inoue.
Donaire, 39, weighed in at 117.8 pounds on Monday in Yokohama, easily under the bantamweight limit. Inoue tipped the scales at 118 pounds.
Nonito Gonzales Donaire Jr. (OLD) is a professional Filipino boxer. From flyweight to featherweight, he has held many world championships, including the WBC bantamweight belt since May 2021.
The WBC, WBA, and IBF bantamweight world titles will all be on the line when the two fight at the Saitama Super Arena on Tuesday.
“I feel good, I feel great,” Donaire remarked. “It’s going to be an amazing night, and you can look forward to seeing the best of me. I’m very fired up, and it is going to be a very exciting fight,’ he stated.
The fight is a rematch of their 2019 World Boxing Super Series classic, which Inoue won by unanimous decision. The fight was selected as the Fight of the Year by the Boxing Writers Association of America.
Donaire has won back-to-back fights after his loss to “The Monster,” and he became the oldest fighter to win a bantamweight belt when he knocked out Nordine Oubaali in May 2021.
He is now sure that he can beat Inoue’s record and come closer to his ambition of winning all of the division’s belts.
