Nora Aunor has been named a National Artist by the National Commission for Culture and the Arts.
Nick Lizaso, head of the National Commission for Culture and the Arts, stated on Friday, June 10, that legendary and award-winning actress Nora Aunor has been named a National Artist for Film. She was named a national artist among others like:
- Fides Cuyugan Asensio for music
- Ricardo Lee for literature
- Gemino Abad for literature
- Agnes Locsin for dancing
- Salvacion Lim “Slim” Higgins for Fashion
- Tony Mabesa for Theater
This title has previously escaped the actress. Malacanang removed her from the list in 2014, which was then appealed by the NCCA. This decision disappointed other famous performers at the time as well. The cause of this is related to her problems with illegal substances.
Furthermore, Aunor began her career as a performer. She made her cinematic debut in All Over the World (1967), and she has since featured in heavy dramas. There is no doubt about Aunor’s talent for drama and acting.
She garnered 17 FAMAS Award nominations and was inducted into the “Hall of Fame” for her outstanding performance. She also received five Best Actress awards. She is also the most nominated actress in Gawad Urian, with 21 nominations and seven wins.
Among other honors, she got eight PMPC Star Awards, eight Metro Manila Film Festival Awards, four Luna Awards, five Young Critics Circle Awards, one Cairo Film Festival Award, one Asia Pacific Screen Awards, and one Asian Film Awards.
